Based at our Head Office in Leatherhead, Surrey
Status: Permanent
Salary: Band 7, £47,320 - £54,150 per annum, dependent on experience, plus 5% Fringe Allowance
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 16:30, hybrid, 2 days in office, 3 days at home.

About Us:
Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans. For over a century we’ve been helping former service personnel deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today we provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. We provide a range of community, outpatient and residential mental health services to veterans with complex mental health problems. We provide services in-person, and via phone and online.
About the role:
We're looking for a passionate and driven Challenge Events Manager to lead our growing challenge events portfolio - from iconic national events to bespoke, DIY fundraising campaigns.
Reporting to the Head of Challenges & Community, you’ll take ownership of delivering and expanding our challenge events programme. You’ll lead on strategy, budgeting, marketing, stewardship, and event execution – ensuring our supporters are inspired and supported every step of the way.
You’ll also line-manage the Senior Challenge Officer and play a key role in cross-team collaboration with Communications, Digital, and Corporate Partnerships to maximise the impact of our events and supporter engagement.

What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage a diverse portfolio of third-party and DIY challenge events.
- Deliver sector-leading supporter journeys that build loyalty and increase income.
- Identify growth opportunities and new trends in the challenge fundraising space.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to deliver high-quality events.
- Provide accurate forecasting, budgeting, and reporting on event performance.
- Represent Combat Stress externally and act as an expert voice on challenge events.
About You
- Proven experience in managing successful challenge or mass participation events.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Confident communicator with excellent relationship-building abilities.
- Experience of budget management and delivering income against targets.
- Passionate about supporter engagement and delivering excellent experiences.
- Knowledge of the charity and fundraising landscape (desirable).
- Experience using CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge (desirable).
This role is subject to a DBS check.
