Combat Stress Learning

Empowering those who support veterans

Our military-focused mental health training platform

Launched in 2022, Combat Stress Learning is our dedicated training platform enabling us to share cutting-edge evidence-based, trauma informed expertise of veterans’ mental health with organisations who work with, employ or support veterans, so that they can help them to live healthy and meaningful lives.

To date, the training platform has delivered over 1,000 hours of interactive online learning, live events and forums on subjects such as suicide prevention and transition from military to civilian life to over 350 individuals, and 100 UK charities and services, involved in supporting veterans. The development of the platform and provision of training has been made possible thanks to funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Trust Fund.

No other health training space has such veteran-focused content or so many armed forces organisations collaborating to learn together. It is the trusted home for those who want to learn more about veterans’ mental health.

Andrew Veevers, Partnership Lead for Learning and Development at Combat Stress, said: “Our Learning Community is the first of its kind. The positive impact of our learning platform on veteran mental health support underscores the importance of ongoing efforts to address mental health challenges within the veteran community. The veteran is at the heart of what we do, and we believe our training will ultimately improve the lives of veterans in the UK.

We have several training packages available; to professionals working with or supporting veterans with mental health issues from the public, private or voluntary sector as well as partners and carers of veterans.

Just launched: fully funded training about veterans’ mental health

To help increase understanding about veterans’ mental health, in January 2025 we launched two new learning communities on Combat Stress Learning. The training is available to organisations who work with, employ or support veterans. Thanks to the generosity of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust we can offer 3,000 fully funded places.

The training will focus on two key areas:

  • Suicide Prevention; Supporting High-Risk Veterans. This training aims to reduce veteran deaths by suicide. Our training focuses on increasing confidence (via upskilling and sharing expertise) amongst people caring for or working with veterans with mental health needs who are at high-risk of suicide.
  • Cultivating Hope & Trauma-Informed Services. This training aims to reduce the length of time between veterans with complex mental health issues leaving the military and seeking help.
