Recovery at Combat Stress
Our specialist treatment aims to help as many veterans as possible to recover from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but what does the term ‘recovery’ actually mean?
Recovery will look different for every veteran. We aim to help all those who seek our support to be able to live the life they want for themselves, without the debilitating effects of PTSD shaping their every day. After receiving our treatment, many veterans no longer meet the criteria for PTSD. Although they may still experience some mental health difficulties, they’re typically at a much lower level, meaning veterans are able to invest in their life and thrive in a way that wasn’t possible before.
Our specialist treatments have been developed to meet the changing needs of the veterans who seek our help, and are often informed by our own research. An example of this is our research into our treatment designed specifically to treat Complex PTSD, carried out by the Combat Stress Centre for Applied Veterans' Health Research in conjunction with Edinburgh Napier University, King’s College London and Ulster University. Funded by the Forces in Mind Trust, the treatment is the first to target Complex PTSD, and the research trial has shown positive outcomes for its effectiveness.
