Army veteran to climb Snowdon using adapted bike for wheelchair users

Corporal Tom Green, was taking part in the RideLondon cycling challenge on 14 August 2020 when he was hit by a lorry.

Tom was a physical trainer in the First Fusiliers but his life-changing accident means he is now a wheelchair user.

Two years to the day – and the minute – of his accident, at 08.04 Corporal Tom Green will start his ascent of Snowdon.

He will be using a hand cranked battery assist bike which is designed for difficult terrain. Tom will use his own upper body strength to pedal the bike. Tom will be accompanied by his partner, brother, an old army colleague and a friend from his rehabilitation group, who will be there to assist with any rocky or inaccessible parts of the climb.

Corporal Green explained why he has chosen to undertake this challenge.

"Why Snowdon on the second anniversary? I knew that this day in particular could be tough, so from here on out this will be an annual thing I do. I've spent many hours up this particular mountain and yearn to be back up there. Last year I completed an eight-hour ski erg challenge (a cross-country skiing machine you operate with your arms) so I had to go one better this year!

“My intent for this challenge is to obviously raise money and more awareness for Combat Stress but if anyone sees me doing what I do and feels more motivated to get moving and tackle the wonderful scenery we have on our doorstep then ‘winner, winner’.”
