RAF Waddington 8 Squadron raise over £1200 for Combat Stress through farewell auction

Latest Stories

With the imminent drawdown of 8 Squadron at RAF Waddington, the squadron decided to auction off the contents of their buildings, to raise some funds for a few charities close to their hearts.

Having lost two beloved members of the squadron in the last couple of years, Cpl Shaun Dakin and Sgt Shaun Byrne, it was decided that the money raised would be best donated to the charities their families had chosen to support.

Cpl Dakin’s family were keen to support Combat Stress, and Sgt Shaun Byrne’s young family chose to support Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

The auction took place on 14 July 2022, with a veritable treasure trove of quirky items acquired over 30 years of Sentry world travel, as well as 200 poems framed and signed by Officer in Command, Wing Commander V Williams, with a gold wax stamp.

The auction raised £2552.42 to be split between us and Scotty’s Little Soldiers, each receiving £1276.21.

Robert Marsh, Director of Fundraising at Combat Stress, said: “We are incredibly grateful to 8 Squadron, and Cpl Dakin’s family, for supporting us with their parting auction.

“The money they have raised will help us to be there for those veterans in need so we can support them with our specialist mental health services.”
