Support during the Cost of Living Crisis

Support for veterans and their family

The Cost of Living crisis is affecting a huge proportion of the nation right now. And this includes the veterans we support, their loved ones, and our fundraisers and donors, for whom we are so grateful. For veterans in particular, who may already experience heightened levels of stress, this potential financial pressure may be having a negative impact on mental health and may worsen feelings of anxiety.

If you’re a veteran, or a loved one worried about the mental health of a veteran, please do get in touch with our Helpline for emotional and psychological support – we are available 24/7, free, on 0800 138 1619. Alternatively, you can also contact us via email at helpline@combatstress.org.uk or by text on 07537 173683 (standard text charges may apply).

For veterans and their families concerned about managing finances, if you need help with every day essentials or are struggling to pay for items and services you need, you can apply to the Royal British Legion’s Cost of Living Grants Programme. If you receive any means-tested state benefits, including universal credit, pension credit or income support you should qualify automatically, but you could still be eligible for a grant if you don’t get any benefits.

The Royal British Legion will check your income and expenditure and assess your needs. Apply for a grant online or call the Royal British Legion on 0808 802 8080.

Veterans’ Gateway can also offer financial advice here.
