Combat Stress complains to BBC
Combat Stress complains to BBC Radio 4
9th September 2020
This week’s episode of The Lenny Henry Show on BBC Radio 4 featured sketches about a Special Forces soldier-turned-teacher. The content of one of the sketches in particular trivialised the trauma of war and the suicide of veterans. We are disappointed and have submitted a complaint to the BBC.
Military-related trauma is a very serious issue that affects a small but significant number of veterans. It can have a devastating impact on those affected and their loved ones. Each year, Combat Stress receives approximately 2,000 referrals from veterans with moderate to severe mental health conditions, some of who have suicidal thoughts.
We would welcome the opportunity to work with BBC Radio 4 team to better educate them on these issues.
