Hours: 3 hour shifts, weekdays
About Us:
Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans. For over a century we’ve been helping former service personnel deal with issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today we provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues related to their military service. We provide a range of community, outpatient and residential mental health services to veterans with complex mental health problems. We provide services in-person, and via phone and online.
About the role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for volunteer gardeners to assist on our beautiful 12 acres of grounds and gardens at our Head Office / England South Hub site.
What will I be doing?
- Weeding, pruning, sweeping, digging, potting and deadheading.
- Depending on your fitness and experience, you might help with mowing, leaf blowing and hedge trimming.
How much time should I give?
A minimum time commitment of one shift (3 hours) per week is requested for this green-fingered role but there is flexibility.

What do I need to have?
- Some gardening knowledge and experience is required.
- A love of nature and creativity.
- A sense of camaraderie to work alongside colleagues but also the ability to work alone outside.
- An element of physical stamina is useful as you may be on your feet for some time.
- Appropriate clothing for the weather, including closed-top shoes.
What training and support will I be given?
Our volunteer gardeners receive induction and training.
This role is subject to a DBS check.
