We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been awarded £20,000 by The National Lottery Community Fund to help with funding a recovery support programme for veterans in the community.

The monthly social programme at Tyrwhitt House, in Surrey, will feature workshops, talks and recreational activities for 100 veterans who have completed clinical treatment through Combat Stress. It aims to foster social inclusion, reduce stigma, and establish ongoing social support networks for veterans beyond their time with Combat Stress. Subject to more funding, we welcome the opportunity to roll out similar programmes across the UK.

By empowering veterans to build strong relationships with others with similar lived experiences, we believe the programme will improve their wellbeing, help them to gain greater confidence and motivation to engage with other veteran support services and reduce their feelings of isolation.

Medical Director Professor Catherine Kinane said: “On behalf of everyone at Combat Stress I’d like to thank The National Lottery Community Fund for awarding us £20,000. This money will make a big difference to the lives of many veterans as we will be able to deliver further community-based support for veterans. This will give them a better platform to reach their potential as they make a sustained recovery from complex mental health issues.”
