On Tuesday 23 July, the prestigious Soldiering On Awards held its reception at the House of Lords for this year’s finalists – and Combat Stress was there having been nominated for two awards.

The event, hosted by awards patron the Rt Hon Earl Howe GBE PC, was an opportunity to pay tribute to the inspiring stories of courage, endeavour and progress in the Armed Forces Community.

Combat Stress’ Veterans Intensive Complex Trauma Organised Recovery (VICTOR), our unique and groundbreaking intensive treatment service, is nominated for the Healthcare and Rehabilitation award. VICTOR is the only intensive treatment for Complex PTSD available to veterans in the UK. Representing VICTOR on the night were Senior Clinical Psychologist Dr Kimberly Gin and Senior Occupational Therapist Kate-Lynn Phillips.

Dr Kimberly Gin said: “It was an honour to attend the Soldiering on Awards celebration of finalists. An amazing opportunity to celebrate all the incredible work happening in the veteran community.”

Kate-Lynn Phillips added: It was an incredible experience to be in a room filled with individuals and organisations who are all working towards the same goal in supporting the armed forces community.”

Our Learning and Development team, which has established a military-focused mental health education platform for more than 100 UK charities and services, is nominated for the Education, Training and Development award. The team has delivered over 1,000 hours of specialist training to those working with veterans with mental health issues, made possible with funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. Representing the nomination at the reception were Training Programme Coordinator Gill Gallagher and Learning and Development Assistant Trainer Elin Solomon.

Gill Gallagher said: “We were honoured to represent Combat Stress and the Learning and Development team. These awards recognise outstanding achievement in the Armed Forces community so to have Combat Stress Learning acknowledged as a leading education and training service is fantastic. In addition, at the reception we were able to connect with services who could be beneficiaries of our new projects.”

The 36 finalists celebrated at the reception were addressed by the new Minister for Veterans and People, Al Carns OBE MC MP, and the Chief of Defence People, Vice Admiral Phil Haly CB MBE, who commended their achievements.
